Travis says...

I recently received a Curtis Mathes Upton U2923 from my grandmothers estate. It was the entertainment center my father enjoyed as a child. It is immaculate walnut. Although it was never functional as far back as I can remember I would be interested in either restoring it or modifying it to use with my current turntable to incorporate it into my house. ANY direction or advice you might offer would be much appreciated.

Hi Travis, I would try to keep the console as close to originally as possible. The Upton U2923 is a very nice console. Do any of the components work? If not then start with the Antique Radio Forum for some help. They are a awesome group of folks. Many are retired repairmen from the good old days. Just join the site and start explaining what needs to be fixed. They can walk you through many repair jobs and even can help you locate tubes and parts for you console. If possible send some photos of the inside of you Upton and they can probably find you some good paperwork on the model. They have helped me fix many consoles both television and radio-turntable models.

Great site showcasing the CM company. I am fortunate that I have 3 CM sets, 2 80's vintage color consoles and an '84 13" portable - all NEC sets of course but still nice - I'll try and post a few pics soon

Glenn: Good info, great photos. Our family bought a console in 1965 which had a color TV, radio and record player- not sure what brand it was- perhaps a Zenith? I didn't know you were a developer for Curtis Mathes- very impressive. Hope to see you one of these days.

Love the site. My parents could never afford one of these nice sets. We watched TV on a small black and white with rabit ears sitting on a stand. Hey, we still saw Ed Sullivan and Lawrence Welk. Ray
